FETEX is organized yearly under the supervision of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, International Islamic University Islamabad offering a variety of events. The details of events can be found in the enclosed Event Booklet.

FETEX is one of the largest annual technical cum social event of International Islamic University, Islamabad since its inception in 2010. It aims to provide a platform to budding engineers across the country to create, innovate and learn about various aspects of technical as well as non-technical skills through competitions and workshops. In a short span of seven years, FETEX has grown exponentially and enjoys a mammoth footfall of over 8000 participants from over 50 Universities across Pakistan. At FETEX, We promise you nothing but the best 3 days of your lifetime.

This year FETEX is coming with a unique theme of “Exposing the Technical Skills”. We learn through-out our life in anticipation of building ourselves and for that we need to polish our technical skills. The flame of your soul spontaneously rises & you cannot restrict its progress. Come let us go through this process of rediscovering our technical skills and capturing the knowledge and ideas of the infinite thoughts that give us tremendous hope and strength to think free and grow higher as all of us know that the success is created but not inherited.

FETEX 2017

Faculty of Engineering & Technology, International Islamic University Islamabad is going to organize an event named FETEX. This event will comprise of different, Engineering, Social and Professional competitions. Teams and individual participants are being invited from different universities, colleges and schools all over Pakistan, to participate and compete amongst the best young brains. Such competitions are very helpful for young students, as they get a chance to interact with other brightest of minds. The three day event is scheduled to be held from 25th to 27thApril 2017. We invite your institute to participate in this event. You are requested to notify this for the information of all of your students.

Details of various competitions are attached herewith. Students wishing to participate in these competitions are required to register before 20th April 2017. Participants should submit appropriate duly filled registration form for the event online in which they wish to participate. Registration fee is different for different events. A definite cash amount will be awarded to the winning teams/individuals.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Last date for registration is 20thApr 2017.
  • Only Male student participants are allowed.
  • All respective candidates must be enrolled in any recognized university/institute of Pakistan, irrespective of their discipline.
  • Participant should not forget his university card and national identity card.
  • Paid Fees for any event would not be refunded.
  • Replacement of any participant of a team is not allowed after registration
  • If accommodation is required, please notify on the registration form.
  • Accommodation would provide during the days of the events only.
  • Participants are requested to make arrangement for the accommodation if stay is prolonged.
  • Participants of all competitions are required to be present at the stated venue hall on time, as mentioned in the rules.
  • Participants must go through the rules of their respective competition before filling the form.
  • Certificates for all participants and shields for winners will be provided at event closing ceremony.
  • All the forms are available online and fee should be submitted.
  • Registration fee is non-refundable.

Robotics Competitions

  1. RoboRace

Event Details:

This event is comprised of designing a perfectly synchronized system of robots that perform according to the rules of the game played with an utmost precision on the standard arena. Participants and Students from all levels school/college/university departments are invited especially Electronic Engineering, Software engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and IT students.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Single participant is allowed.
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • Only Toy RC car can be used bringing own or provided by the institute.
  • No other Nitro fuel etc RC cars allowed.
  • Road width is 2 foot and it would be rough.
  • The race would be on smooth area.
  • This is a knockout contest between two random selected participants.
  • One re-entry is allowed with additional 100 rupee along with participation fee.
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Rounds Details:
    • Round 1 (Parking Round Skill):
  • Car Parking within time limit of 2 minutes else team would be considered disqualified
  • Not more than 3 reverses are allowed
  • Drifting will lead to bonus points
  • Hitting with any obstacle having negative points
  • Perfect parking and less reverses will have bonus points
    • Round 2 (Parking Round Skill):
  • No Retry will be allowed in this round
  • Two cars will race at a time and two laps for each race
  • A total of 2 minutes will be allowed
  • Hitting the opponent car will be awarded 5 extra points
  • The final round will have only one lap. In this round the car which will clear all checkpoints in the shortest time will be announced

  1. RoboFest Challenge

Event Details:

The objective of this contest is for a robot to follow a black line on a white background, without losing the line, and navigating several 90 degree turns. The robot to complete the course in the shortest period of time while accurately tracking the course line from start to finish wins. Participants and Students from all levels school/college/university departments are invited especially Electronic Engineering, Software engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and IT students.

General Instructions:

  1. Size and Weight Limits:dimensional and weight limits for robots shall be strictly enforced. Robots must have passed inspection prior to competing.
  2. Course Time:time is measured from the time the robot crosses the starting line until the time it crosses the finish line. A robot is deemed to have crossed the line when the forward most wheel, track, or leg of the robot contacts or crosses over the line.
  3. Time Limit:a maximum of 5 minutes is allowed for a robot to complete the course. A robot that cannot complete the course in the allotted time shall be disqualified.
  4. Timekeeping:time shall be measured by an electronic gate system or by a judge with a stopwatch, based on the availability of equipment. In either case the recorded time shall be final.
  5. Autonomous Control:once a robot has crossed the starting line it must remain fully autonomous, or it will be disqualified.
  6. Arena Edges:a robot that wanders off of the arena surface will be disqualified. A robot shall be deemed to have left the arena when any wheel, leg, or track has moved completely off the arena surface.
  7. Losing the Line: any robot that loses the line course must reacquire the line at the point where it was lost, or at any earlier (e.g. already traversed) point.
  8. Second Attempt:any robot that loses the line course and fails to reacquire it will be allowed a single reattempt. The robot must start the course again from the beginning, and if it loses the line course on its second attempt it will be disqualified.
  9. Power of Officials:the decisions of all officials regarding these rules and the conduct of the event shall be final.
  10. Course Specifications:The line following course shall traverse a white paper rectangle, 5ft wide and 9ft long. The line shall be a black, 3cm wide line traversing the arena from end to end. Switchbacks and hairpins are possible, but the adjacent sections of the line shall be no closer together than 10cm when measured from the center of each line. The line course shall have 1 or more sharp right-angle, but no angle will be greater than 120 degrees.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Maximum 4 participants are allowed per team
  2. The Arena will comprise of a Black line (3 cm wide) with white background Robot dimensions are not to be exceeding 30*30*30, exceeding these will result in immediate elimination
  3. Robot gone astray from the arena will be given 10 seconds to return to Arena otherwise will result in Immediate Elimination
  4. Robot will only be considered off the arena if all of its tyres are out of the White line
  5. Once the Robot Enters the Arena no changes will be allowed
  6. Omitting any check point will lead to deduction of 15 points and omitting two check points will lead to disqualification
  7. Only Dry batteries are allowed
  8. The robot should pass through the appropriate checkpoints (A, B, C etc.).
  9. The gaps in between tracks are to be 10 cm
  10. Sharp turns of 90 degrees, ramp and curves
  11. Any sort of damage done by robot to Arena will also lead to the immediate disqualification of the team
  12. Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification
  13. Decision of the judges would be final

Round Details:

Round 1 (Preliminary Round):

  • The designed robot is to follow the checkpoints mentioned on the Arena and each check points will be carrying 15 points i.e
    Check Point 1 = 15 points
    • Check Point 2 = 15 points
    • Check Point 3 = 15 points
    • Check Point 4 = 15 points
  • In this round the robot will be given 3 retries to solve the Arena but every time the robot will have to start from the initial start point i.e. Start Point
  • Reprogramming is allowed only after a Try but once Robot enters the arena Time will be started
  • 5-6 minutes will be the maximum time allowed to a team for 3 retries in round 1
  • No Extra Time will be awarded under any circumstances
  • Teams with most score’s will proceed to the second round of the event

Round 2 (Knout out Round):

  • Only 1 Retry will be allowed in this round of the Event.
  • In this round the robot which will clear all the checkpoints in the shortest time will be Announced Winner
  • Reprogramming is NOT ALLOWED
  • A total of 3 minutes is allowed in this round
  • The Grading Policy will be same as Preliminary round
  • Completing the Arena will be awarded 15 points extra

  1. Sky Scope

Event Details:

Popularly known as drones, but also referred to as remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from small handheld types up to large aircraft, potentially a similar size to airliners. Participants and Students from all levels school/college/university departments are invited especially Electronic Engineering, Software engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and IT students.

General Instructions:

  • Single participant is allowed.
  • The performance of drones in all Stages/Arena will be evaluated individually
  • There will be 2 stages
  • Only Toy Quad Drone can be used bringing own or provided by the institute.
  • Selection of participants will be purely based on testing done by organizers in campus
  • Stage 1 will be 1 minute long
  • The retrace of a particular Stage/Arena in case of a severe accident will not be entertained
  • Testing time will be allowed till the day of the competition
  • Any participant that is not ready before the competition begins will be eliminated from the competition
  • This is a knockout contest between two random selected participants.
  • One re-entry is allowed with additional 200 rupee along with participation fee.
  • Decision of the judges would be final

Stages Details:

Stage 1:

  • Drones will be judged on their stability and balance in a number of ways
  • The pilot’s ability to keep drone at the same altitude
  • The pilot’s ability to keep the drone’s direction fixated
  • The pilot’s ability to stabilize the drone with least amount of stutter

Stage 2:

  • The drone must take off from center spot (will be specified), then land on the second location. It must take off, fly off to third location and then come back to. The scoring will be based on time of completion as well as the proximity of the drone to land closer to the center of each location
  • 1st Stage will be maximum of 2 minutes long, all the other stages will be maximum 3-4 minutes long

There will be time bonuses for completing a stage early

  • Under 1 minute 30 seconds = 30 points
  • Under 2 minutes = 20 points
  • Under 2 minutes 30 seconds = 10 points

Speed Wiring

Event Details:

Do you think you have your way with circuits? Come prove it at Speed Wiring, where teams will be put to the test in a race against time! Show how fast you can connect circuits with the possibility of being crowned the fastest circuit connector in Pakistan.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 2 participants are allowed per team.
  • Participants must be under graduate.
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • No mobile phones will be allowed during the event.
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Number of rounds will be on following conditions:
    • If there are less than 10 participating teams, there will be only one round.
    • If there are 10 or more participating teams, there will be two rounds
  • Rounds Details:
    • In round 1, there will be 30 MCQ’s from Circuit analysis & Electronic circuit design with (½) negative marking.
    • In round 2, top eight teams will be entertained for speed wiring
  • Time duration for round 1 is 30 minutes & 40 minutes for round 2
  • Marks will be distributed in neat work, running condition and timing.
  • Supporting materials (Pens & pages) will be provided.
  • Winner and runner-up will get the prizes on the following conditions:
    • If there are less than 20 participating teams, only the winner will get the prize.
    • If there are more than 20 participating teams, the winner and the runner up will get prize.

Speed Programming

Event Details:

This event gives students fair chance to show their Programming skills. A competition will be held between interested participants. Participants will be asked to code program in C/C++ language Only BS level students are eligible. Students from all departments will be invited especially Electronic Engineering, Software engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and IT students.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 2 participants are allowed per team.
  • Participants must be under graduate.
  • Time limitations will strictly be followed
  • Volunteers or organizers are not allowed to enter this competition under any circumstances
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • Participants cannot leave the room before the competition round ends.
  • No mobile phones will be allowed during the event.
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Rounds Details
    • In round 1, there would be 30 MCQ’s for 30 minutes.
    • In round 2, each team would be provided with a random/common logic. The coding of logic has to be programmed and compiled within 30 minutes and program can be done in C & C++.
    • In round 3, it is based on Debugging. The code would be provided on paper and errors in the code have to be sorted out.

Microcontroller interfacing

Event Details:

Think you are logical? Have a craze for programming? Then step up into the digital age and join us in Micro-controller Interfacing eventof FETEX 2017 to solve real life problem using micro-controllers and compete with other university students. The event comprises of two rounds.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 3 participants are allowed per team.
  • PC’s will be provided with installed software (keil and Proteus). Teams are encouraged to bring their own laptops, but no helping material in it.
  • Hardware kits will be provided for implementation. Moreover, details of registers to be used will also be provided.
  • Programs should be written for AT89C51 Microcontroller only. Simulation should be carried out on Proteus.
  • Teams must bring their USB disks with them to store their code and simulation to avoid inconvenience during any power failures.
  • There will be no time compensation for late participants
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • Decision of the judges would be final
  • Rounds Details:
    • In round 1, theoretical objective type from 8051 microcontrollers (15 minutes), if number of registered teams is greater than 10.
    • In round 2, two task will be given: Basic Level Programming Task (15 minutes) and Advance Level Task (20 minutes).

MATLAB Guru

Event Details:

This competition will test the skills of MATLAB. Basic computation techniques and algorithm designing methods will be tested. In this competition, a task will be given to the teams by the judges. Team with the highest score according to the judgment criteria will be declared winner.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Max 2 members are allowed in per team.
  • Each team is allowed to use only one PC.
  • Each team can bring only 1 blank page and a pen
  • Use of mobile phones, internet, and/or books during competition is not allowed.
  • No collaboration with other teams is allowed
  • Incomplete solution will be marked with immediate 30 points loss in that solution.
  • The team with maximum points will be declared winner.
  • The decision of the judges will be last and irrevocable.
  • In case of tie, the team submitting first will be declared winner.

Event Details:

This competition gives students fair chance to show their Mathematics skills which they are starting to learn from 1st class of their education career. Only BS level students are eligible. Students from all departments will be invited especially Electronic Engineering, Civil engineering Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics, Physics, Computer science, Software engineering and IT students.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 2 participants are allowed per team.
  • Participants must be under graduate.
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • No mobile phones will be allowed during the event.
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Number of rounds will be on following conditions
    • If there are less than 10 participating teams, there will be only one round.
    • If there are less than 20 participating teams, there will be two rounds
    • If there are grater the 20 participating teams, there would be three rounds
  • Rounds Details
    • In round 1, there would be 30 MCQ’s from Linear Algebra , Calculus, Probability, Differential Equation and basic Trigonometric with (½) negative marking.
    • No calculator will be allowed in the first round
    • In round 2, top fifteen teams will be entertained for second round which is based on the short questions.
    • In round 3, top eight teams would be entertained for the long question round.

Poster Designing

Event Details:

This competition gives students fair chance to show their hidden designing abilities and provide the prolific platform to defeat others with selecting of colors and designs. Students from all departments will be invited especially Electronic Engineering, Civil engineering Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics, Physics, Computer science, Software engineering and IT students.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 3 participants are allowed per team.
  • PC’s will be provided with installed software (coral draw and Photoshop). Teams are encouraged to bring their own laptops, but no helping material in it.
  • Each poster may be no larger than 48 inches (122 cm) by 36 inches (91.4 cm) unfolded. Posters may be assembled using A4, A5 or 8½” by 11″ paper panels.
  • The poster must be able to stand free on a supporting table by means of one or more vertically hinged joints separating the poster into multiple panels, or by physical supports attached to the back of the poster that are not visible from the front of the poster
  • Each entry may have only one author printed on the poster. However, ethical policies require credit (acknowledgements) to be given on the poster for any assistance by other students or advisors
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Evaluation Details:
    • The poster should be prepared so that it is easily understood in the absence of the author (Designer)
    • Neither the author nor any other individuals may be present during the judging
    • Judging criteria are based solely on the content of the front of the poster
    • The conference Host Section is responsible for selecting the judges
    • Task completion and early completion.

PCB Designing

Event Details:

Do you think you have your way of PCB designing? Come and prove where teams will be put to the test in a race against time! Show how fast you can design circuits with the possibility of being crowned the fastest PCB designer in Pakistan.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum 2 participants are allowed per team.
  • Participants must be under graduate.
  • Use of any irrelevant materials or violation of any rules will result in the team’s disqualification.
  • No mobile phones will be allowed during the event.
  • Decision of the judges would be final.
  • Completion of task in time will be awarded bonus marks.
  • All apparatus will be provided by the department.

Rounds Details:

Round 1:
Circuit will be provided to the participants and they will have to generate the PROTEUS file that produce same output as shown by given circuit.
Round will be of 20 minutes.

Round 2:
The selected teams will produce ARES file using same circuit in round 1 and show 3D image in PROTEUS.
Round will be of 20 minutes.

Round 3:
Qualified team will be provided with apparatus to print the PCB layout and Etching material.

Round will be of 30 minutes.

Round 4:
Final round will conclude of complete running circuits including soldering & Drilling. Final output of circuit must be clear and shown to the judges.

Round will be of 40 minutes.

Quiz Competition

Event Details:

This competition will test the skills of general knowledge and current affairs.. Only BS level students are eligible. Students from all departments will be invited especially Electronic Engineering, Civil engineering Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics, Physics, Computer science, Software engineering and IT students.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Max 2 members are allowed in per team.
  • Each team can bring only 1 blank page and a pen
  • Use of mobile phones, internet, and/or books during competition is not allowed.
  • No collaboration with other teams is allowed
  • The decision of the judges will be last and irrevocable
  • In case of tie, the team submitting first will be declared winner
  • Competition will comprise of three rounds
  • WRITTEN TEST (Basic Mathematical and Science Knowledge, Spatial (Shapes/Figuresreading), Identification of nature/class of objects, Analogy/Logic, Common sense)
  • Visual test (Pictorial Similarities in two pictures or questioning from videos)
  • General Knowledge
  • Participants will be briefed regarding the rules once before the start of each competition round
  • Top 4 teams of first round will qualify for rest of rounds
  • Cheating, creation of disturbance will straight forward lead to disqualification at that stage
  • The results decided by evaluators/judges will full and final
  • FETEX management reserves the right to modify the above rules and regulations without prior notice. However, such changes will be notified to the teams before start of competition

Presentation Skills

Event Details:

Soft skills are personal attributes that enhance an individual’s interactions, job performance and career prospects. Unlike hard skills, which are about a person’s skill set and ability to perform a certain type of task or activity, soft skills relate to a person’s ability to interact effectively with coworkers and customers and are broadly applicable both in and outside the workplace. Keeping in mind the importance of above, FETEX’17 includes Presentation Skills Competition

Rules and Regulations:

  • Maximum one Participant in a team
  • Participant has to complete his presentation within 12 min plus 3 min Question & answer session. Total time 15 minutes

  1. Counter Strike 1.6

Game Format:

  • It is a 4 (Four) Player Team Tournament.
  • Each team must present 1 (one) as a representative. He is responsible for his team and will be responsible for choosing maps and all communication with referees must be done through the team captain.
  • The tournament will be played with the following rule set:
  1. Rounds: 20 Rounds (Ten as each side[Terrorists & Counter-Terrorists)
  2. Victory Condition: The first team to win 11 rounds wins the map and the round is over immediately.
  • Each individual round is 1:45 in duration.
  1. The team playing as the Terrorist side first will be announced before the match or decided by coin toss.
  2. In case of a tie after the regulation rounds end (10-10), 6 extra rounds will be played. 3 rounds as Terrorists and 3 rounds as Counter-Terrorists. First team to win 4 rounds wins the map.
  3. Extra rounds restart money: $10,000.
  • For the all matches – Maps will be determined in a snake elimination draft [as follows]:
  1. Team B removes one of the 7 maps .
    ii. Team A removes one of the 6 remaining maps.
    iii. Team B removes one of the remaining 5 maps.
    iv. Team A removes one of the remaining 4 maps.
    v. Team B chooses one of the 3 remaining maps (1st map played).
    vi. Team A chooses one the 2 remaining maps (2nd map played).
    vii. The last remaining map is played as 3rd map, if needed. (Team A and Team B can be determined by a coin toss or by a team’s seeding in the tournament. [Team A is the winner of the coin toss]).
  • Maps allowed for tournament:
  1. Dust2
  2. Inferno
  • Nuke
  1. Mirage
  2. Train
  3. Cobblestone
  • Cache
  • The first team to win 11 rounds will be declared the victor of the match and will advance.
  • The map that each team will play will be randomly picked for each match (besides the final match).

8. NFS Most Wanted

General Provision:

  • Game Version: NFS Most Wanted 1.3 General
  • Competition Method: 1 vs. 1
  • Game Type: Circuit
  • Host, client will be announced before the match or decided by coin toss. (Only for LAN Tournament)
  • Other controllers, Steering Wheel allowed
  • At the end of each match, players must maintain the final screens and receive confirmation from a referee.
  • Winning a race: The winner of a race is the first player to complete 5 laps of the circuit course and cross the finish line.
  • Graphic settings such as motion blur¡± can be set using external utilities. The use of Porsche GT and BMW M3 are NOT allowed.
  • Two warnings constitute being disqualified from the tournament.

9. FIFA 15

General Provision:

  • Half length: 5 mins
  • Only club teams allowed. No international or classic or world X1.
  • Both legacy and tactical defending are allowed
  • Game difficulty: Professional
  • Players are allowed to bring their own hardware.
  • A player can ONLY pause the game if he has the possession of the ball. Somehow, if he pauses the game when the opponent has the ball, he may get disqualified from the match.
  • Only the players registered will be allowed to play – no replacements whatsoever.
  • Each participant will be given 3 minutes for team selection and formation.
  • No slander or aggression towards the opponent will be tolerated
  • Each individual will be expected to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before their match.
  • Draw will lead to golden goal and Penalties.
  • No Custom formations/tactics/set pieces.
  • Any damage to the gaming set up, the player will have to bear the consequences. IN CASE OF ANY CONFLICT, DECISION OF THE ORGANIZERS IS FINAL AND BINDING.

  1. TAKKEN 3

General Provision:

  • Game Settings:
    • Options: default
    • Rounds: 80 second
    • Rounds winners: 3
    • Authorized characters: all except “Combot
    • Counter pick: no
  • Match Start:
    An official match may only be started and played when a tournament official has given the signal to start it. Any match started without approval of a tournament official will be considered as a non-official match. When a match involves the players to be ready,players have one (1) minute after the signal to be ready and start the match.
  • Communication:
    During an official match, players may not communicate with people not involved in the match even when there are pauses in the game. People involved in the match are the players and the tournament official. Players are only authorized to leave the tournament area with the permission of a tournament official.
  • Match stopped:

Players are not expected to leave an official game in progress unless it is authorized by the match format or it has been expressly authorized by the tournament officials. Between two

Half-time of a game players are not expected to leave their place unless it has been expressly authorized by the tournament officials. Between two games during a best-of-three match or an overtime players are authorized to leave their computer before the next game start. But they can’t leave the tournament area. Players are only authorized to leave the tournament area with the permission of a tournament official.

  • Match Interrupted:
    If a game is involuntary interrupted (player crash, server crash, network cuts …) the tournament officials may or not decide to replay the game. If the match must be replay it will be according to the following rules:

    1. If no player won a round before the interruption the entire match is replayed.
    2. If one round was won before the interruption, the game interrupted is replayed with the remaining round to play. The round scored of the interrupted game will be added to the final score of the new game
