Tafseer & Quranic Sciences

The Department of Tafseer and Qur’anic Sciences at International Islamic University Islamabad Pakistan was founded in 1981 as a part of Faculty of Usuluddin (Islamic Studies). After its establishment, the Department started offering graduate, post graduate and doctoral degree programs. It is considered to be unique academic unit throughout the country, owing to its specialized academic curricula, research culture and the strength of its teaching faculty which comes from Pakistan as well as from various other parts of the Muslim world. It is the largest department in the faculty as far as the number of students in considered. The department has prepared an integrative curriculum that comprises the classical books of Islamic heritage as well as the latest writings in this field.

The aims and objectives of the department:

  1. To produce experts in the field of Tafsir and the Qur’anic Sciences.
  2. To introduce students to the original sources in the field and train them how to understand and interpret what the previous commentators on the Holy Quran have produced so that they develop a deep insight about the subject.
  3. To update knowledge of the students about the latest development in the specialization of exegesis of the Holy Quran and the relevant sciences, especially focusing on the critical issues that are raised about the Holy Quran.
  4. To develop skills of conducting genuine research projects and dealing with the academic materials of this specialization.
