Seminar on the topic of “Subliminal Messages” organized by BSSE-F08:

 
The students of BSSE-F08, Section A, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, International Islamic University Islamabad, organized a seminar on the topic of “Subliminal Messages” on 23rd of April, 2012 under the supervision of Ms. Zakia Jalil, in Fatima Block Auditorium, Female campus, IIUI. It was organized as a course assignment for the course “Professional Practices” taught by Ms. Zakia Jalil, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Subliminal Messages are those sensory messages that are below an individual’s threshold for conscious perception. They are hidden messages that are made to act on your subconscious mind. They are an attempt to make you think or want something without you even realizing it. These hidden messages can be transmitted by animations, in pictures within pictures, in themes, or even in slogans. Nowadays, subliminal messages are being used in advertisement of many products to influence customers or to increase sales; they are being used in movies, cartoons, and in other television programs. Subliminal slogans are being used in political speeches, and in newspaper articles. This seminar was intended to make people aware about the existence and affects of Subliminal Messages on human brain and behavior, and their impact on our society, by inviting the two qualified and experienced speakers that could share their thoughts and experiences with the seminar participants.

The first guest speaker Mr. Hamid Mumtaz, an Economic Activist, a Researcher, a Blogger, and a Telecom Engineer, delivered the most interesting and informative speech about Subliminal Messages. Dr. Uzma Masroor, Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, International Islamic University Islamabad, trained in Neurolinguistic Programming and Hypnosis, was invited as the second speaker of the seminar. Dr. Uzma Masroor discussed the psychological effects of Subliminal Messages and shared her experience with the seminar participants. At the end, the students organizing this seminar dedicated it to their course teacher Ms. Zakia Jalil and there was special dedication to the Pak Army soldiers stuck in Siachin and victims of the recent plane crash (Bhoja airplane) near Islamabad, and a congregational duaa was offered for the deceased victims and their families. The seminar was concluded by presenting shields to the guest speakers Mr. Hamid Mumtaz and Dr. Uzma Masroor, and to the course Instructor Ms. Zakia Jalil. Certificates were distributed among the audience of the seminar. Guest speakers, faculty members, and audience were entertained with a delicious lunch arranged by the class. Entire faculty appreciated the management of this successful seminar and work done by the whole class of BSSE-F08, which was the outcome of outstanding unity and team work.
