DR ASAD RIZVI COMPLETES POST DOCTORATE FROM UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO CANADA

Dr Asad Rizvi Assistant Professor Department of Education Faculty of Social Sciences International Islamic University Islamabad has completed his Post Doctorate from Ontario Institute for Studies in assad_abbasEducation, University of Toronto (UofT), Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Asad was awarded Post-Doc Fellowship by HEC Pakistan in 2015. He is the first Pakistani, who got the status of Post Doc Fellow at UoT.

His title of dissertation was “Cultural Diversity in Higher Education: Developing A Learning Framework for Universities Focusing Cultural Diversity”.

Dr. Asad completed his work under the guidance of world renowned scholar on cultural diversity, Professor Dr. Reva Joshee Associate Professor and Director, Centre for Leadership and Diversity Department of Leadership, Higher, and Adult Education, OISE, University of Toronto. She is also adviser to Canadian government on Cultural Diversity and among the top three scholars of the world in this area.

Dr. Asad Abbas also completed a course “Continuous Professional Development” (CPD 600) from career Center at University of Toronto, designed for Post Docs of U of T. In this course he got certificate of appreciation and certificate for 100% attendance.

Dr. Rizvi developed a framework for universities that focuses on cultural diversity. He carried out semiotic analysis of nine frameworks of culturally diverse universities. He pointed out that belief system is one of the missing components in most of the frameworks.

His basic argument is that cultural framework of universities must be in accordance with the belief systems of that particular culture. Dr. Asad also emphasized that HEC, like other frameworks, should also develop a cultural diversity framework for universities which may help in producing culturally diverse graduates.

The framework may also help in developing cultural respect and harmony among different cultures. Dr. Asad is currently working on developing a Career Center at IIUI that will be helpful b for faculty and students and will facilitate cultural diversity at IIUI.
