57 UNIVERSITIES TAKE PART IN IIUI’S ASCII-16 INTER-VARSITY COMPETITION

computingAll Pakistan Inter-University competition titled “ASCII-16” kicked-off here on Saturday at Faisal Masjid campus of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

As many as 2000 students hailing from 57 universities across the country showcased their talent in more than thirty competitions including e-camping, app development, quizzes, seminars, photography, poetry recitation and various other activities which are part of the event (ASCII-16) organized by the department of computer science of the varsity.

“Advancement in the field of technology is a gateway to progress” said Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr. Ismail Shah who was the chief guest of the event. He added that setting science and technology as top priority is a prerequisite for making place among the ranks of developed and advanced nations. He furthered that PTA is mulling over holding a national level competition of technology which will be based on theme “ use of technology for disable persons”, saying that the authority has dedicated this year to the impaired people. Dr. Ismail Shah told that PTA is also striving for linkage with academia in fields of cloud computing and other technologies.

Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, the varsity Acting President said that nations which don’t change according to the requirements of time they remain too far from the destination of prosperity and success. He introduced IIUI to the participants while telling that it is providing quality education to the students of more than 40 countries integrated with teachings of Islam. He lauded the ASCII-16 activity and furthered that students are ray of hope for Muslim world.

In the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sher, Dean of IIUI’s Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, said that the event will provide a platform to the students of Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information technology from all over Pakistan to show their talent in different IT and other competitions.nnnn

Dr. Khalid Rasheed, former Chairman of the computer science department also spoke on the occasion and said the event was an omen of department’s performance and advancement.

Dr. Hasnain Naqvi, Head of the computer Department said that IIUI is the pioneer in such events and has the honor to start All Pakistan Inter University competitions in the field of Computing back in 1997. He added that the purpose of this activity was to engage the students of different universities from all over Pakistan in healthy academic and non-academic activities.

Competitions would remain continued on Sunday as well at Faisal Masjid campus, while the event would conclude in evening 5 pm on same day.
