Ceremony to Show Gratitude on Getting First Prize in English Category (Books) in All Pakistan Sirah Writing Competition
An event was organized by the Department of History & Pakistan Studies on Thursday, 19th October, 2023 in Hazrat Fatima Block Auditorium, Female Campus IIUI to celebrate the winning of 1st Prize on the Book Muhammad: The Greatest Strategist written by Ms. Siama Gul in English Category Books in All Pakistan Seerah Writing Competition. Ms. Siama Gul did her Ms from the department of History and Pakistan Studies and is currently teaching in the same department as visiting faculty member.

Dr. Rafia Riaz, Incharge Program, started the ceremony with the brief overview of efforts of History Department to produce research works on Muslim history and remarked that this was a proud moment for the department. The guest of honor, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean FSS appreciated the work (Muhammad: The Greatest Strategist) and its recognition at national level. He also emphasized the need of such kind of scientific inquiry about the less explored aspects of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s life to counter the rapidly growing ‘Islamophobia’ in the West.

Chairman Deptt. of History & Pakistan Studies, Dr. Mujeeb Ahmed encouraged the students and MS scholars to produce well researched works and promised to guide and support them to get their research published. Dr. Ijaz Shafi Gillani, senior Professor and Former Dean Faculty of Management and Social Sciences IIUI, recommended that the book should be prescribed as an essential reading for the students and faculty members specializing in the fields of security studies, Peace and conflict studies and Global IR. The event was attended by chairpersons, faculty members and students of various departments to congratulate the author and Department of History & Pakistan Studies on this blissful occasion. At the end of the ceremony, Incharge Program, Dr. Rafia Riaz thanked all the honorable guests and the students.

Study Tour of the Parliament of Pakistan
On 28 June 2022, the Department of History & Pakistan Studies, IIUI arranged a study tour of the Parliament of Pakistan. Faculty and students of the Department of History & Pakistan Studies saw the Budget Session of the National Assembly. The Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly made special announcement about the arrival of the delegation which was welcomed by the members present in the House. The delegation also visited the Library, Parliamentary Gallery and different sections of the Parliament.

 
Study Visit of Army Institute of Military History, Rawalpindi
On March 7, 2022, a delegation of the Faculty and Students of the Department History &Pakistan Studies, IIUIled by Chairperson Dr. Mujeeb Ahmad had an Excursion Study Visit of Army Institute of Military History, Rawalpindi Cantt.

The delegation was very well received by the authorities of the AIMH. The academic and research staff of the Institute briefed the delegation on the role,mandate and ongoing research projects of the Institute. After the briefing, the question answer session turned into a lively debate in which all of participators learned a lot. The delegation also visited AIMH Archives and library.

Dr. Mujeeb Ahmad thanked the AIMH officials for providing the study excursion opportunity for the faculty and the students of IIUI and also expressed his good wishes for the development of mutual understanding in future between IIUI and AIMH. At the end the exchange of souvenirs was done.

Female Students Participation in International Conference (21st -25th June 2021)
It has been an honour for the first time in history of the Department of History and Pakistan Studies, our BS (Pakistan Studies) Students; Fatima Rahim, Zunara Ahmad, Shaguftah Habib and Shanza Aslam attended (virtually) the Bulgarian Comparative Education International Conference (June 21st ““ 25th , 2021) under the supervision of their Research Methodology Course facilitator; Shabana Shamaas Gul Khattak (PhD). The Conference was organised by Bulgarian Comparative Education Society (BCES) Sofia with the world renowned keynote speakers. The students worked incredibly hard in their research designs, data collection and analysis process during their coursework (Fall 2020). And despite of their Terminal Examinations Spring 2021, they fully prepared themselves for virtual presentation. Their research about “œCovid-19 Impact on Higher Education in Pakistan” was immensely appreciated. The students successfully defended their research findings and methodology in the Q&A session. Webinar on: The Role of NCSW for Safeguarding women’s Rights in Pakistan
On Monday April 26, 2021, the Department of History and Pakistan Studies (FC) and the Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) jointly organised a Webinar entitled: “œThe Role of NCSW for Safeguarding women’s Rights in Pakistan”. Our distinguish keynote speaker was Suliman Shah, Director NCSW, Ministry of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Islamabad. He thoroughly discussed the Commission contributions for women empowerment and safeguarding measures in the existing patriarchal culture and society of Pakistan. BS 5th, 6th and 7th Semesters Students were the main audience because of their course work; Human Rights in Pakistan (MC-412). The webinar was followed by a stimulating Questions and Answers Session.


 

Dr Mujeeb Ahmad Visited Usak University, Turkey
Dr Mujeeb Ahmad, Chairman Dept. of History and Pakistan Studies, FSS, IIUI visited Turkey as a Mevlana Instructor in the Dept. of History, Faculty of Science and Literature, Usak University under the Mevlana Exchange and Academic Staff Mobility Programme during 8-22 September 2019. During his stay at the Usak University, he gave a seminar on “South Asian Muslims and the Turks: A Historical Account of Religio-Political and Social Interactions’. Dr Mujeeb also had meetings with the Rector, Dean Faculty of Science and Literatureand faculty members of the different departments. In his meeting with the Head of the Dept. of History, opportunities and possibilities of mutual academic cooperation with the Dept. of History and Pakistan Studies, IIUI was thoroughly discussed.

In his academic endeavor, Dr Mujeeb Ahmad also visited the shrine of Hazrat Ayyub Ansari in Istanbul and Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi in Konya, besides visits of other archaeological and historical sites, museums and libraries. Dr Mujeeb also visited the departments of History and Urdu, Istanbul University and met faculty members. In Istanbul, he also visited the main office of world-wide publisher of books, Hakikat Kitabevi and main secretariat of the Research Center For Islamic History, Art And Culture, working under the patronage of OIC.

Student Poster Competition
Student Poster Competition was organized at the Department of History and Pakistan Studies on Tuesday 23rd April 2019. The aim was to encourage students to present their course outcomes and understanding of our diverse culture and societal set up in Pakistan. The students enjoyed this activity. At the end the HOD, Dr. Rafia Riaz and Ms. Attiya Abrar, Incharge, Department of Islamic Art and Architecture judged and announced the top three positions holders. All the students were awarded with competition participation certificates along the winners.

  

  

  

Seminar on “Urban Life in the Indus Enclave”
The Department of History and Pakistan Studies (FC) organized a seminar on March 6, 2019. The title of the Seminar was “œUrban Life in the Indus Enclave”. Dr. Khurram Qadir, the former Director of the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, was invited as a speaker. Dr. Qadir first addressed about the significance of the Indus Enclave and about the astounding features of the Indus Civilization in the Sub-continent. He briefed the participants about the ways in which urbanization started to emerge in this region leading to the present day urbanization in Pakistan. The speaker then involved in discussion with the participants, answering their questions and relating them to the maps of urban settlements in the Indus Enclave. The seminar ended with the note of thanks by Dr. Rafia Riaz, Acting Chairperson of the Department of History and Pakistan Studies.

Dr. Mujeeb Ahmad participated in the 47th Annual Conference on South Asia at Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Dr. Mujeeb Ahmad, Chairman, Department of History & Pakistan Studies, International Islamic University, Islamabad participated in the 47th Annual Conference on South Asia held on October 11-14, 2018 at Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The Conference was organized by the Center for South Asia, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He presented his paper titled, “Calling Prophet for Votes: Genesis of the Tehrik-i-Labbaik Ya Rasulullah’ in the panel Politics and Paranoia: Portraying Muslims and Islam in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka” on 12 October 2018.
He also participated in the Roundtable “Insiders, Outsiders and Teaching South Asian Muslim Studies’ organized by the South Asian Muslim Studies Association, on 11 October 2018.
This participation in the Conference was fully funded by the HEC

 

Seminar on “œThe History of Census in Pakistan: Case Study of 2017 Census”

The Department of History & Pakistan Studies arranged a seminar on “The History of Census in Pakistan: Case Study of 2017 Census” on September 26, 2018, 10.00 am to 1.00 pm at FSL Seminar Room, Faculty Block-I, IIUI.
The Seminar started with the recitation of the Quran and after that Dr. Syed Akmal Hussain Shah, Seminar coordinator of the Department briefed about the seminar and introduced the guest speaker Mr. Habibullah Khan, Member Census & Surveys Committee, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Mr. Habibullah presented a comprehensive, informative and all-inclusive presentation covering the history of Census in Pakistan, its organization, conduction and methodology of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics regarding carrying out of the census. Moreover, the presentation was comprised on the analysis of the 2017 Census.
Following that was a fruitful question / answer session, in which the faculty members and the students participated. Dr. Mujeeb Ahmad, Chairman of the Department of History & Pakistan Studies presided over the seminar. The faculty members and students of the Faculty of Social Sciences also attended the seminar.
